What can be expected during my dental implant consultation?

When you come in for a dental implant consultation, your surgeon will create a treatment plan for you and explain the implant options available to help you achieve your goals. To determine whether you have enough bone support for implant fixtures, we will take digital x-rays and three-dimensional scans of your mouth. If needed, your surgeon may recommend bone grafting to ensure that your implant is properly supported.

What differentiates a dental implant from dentures?

A dental implant replaces one tooth, while a denture or partial denture is removable and replaces most or all of the teeth on an arch. A successful implant restoration will resemble a natural tooth in appearance, feel, and function, whereas a denture will not.

What will I do with my missing tooth while the implant is healing?

Accepted Answer

If a temporary replacement is required, our surgeon will consult with your restorative dentist. A temporary restoration is not required for all implant procedures. Essix appliances, resin-bonded bridges, and "flippers" are all options for interim restorations. During your consultation, your surgeon will go over this with you.

TMJ disorders are frequently treated by a family doctor or general dentist, but if the therapies they offer do not relieve your discomfort, you may be referred to Costello Oral Surgery Associates. Oral surgeons are experts in TMJ disorder diagnosis and treatment because they understand the mechanics of the jaw joints, occlusion, and masticatory muscles.

What will an oral and maxillofacial surgeon do for TMJ?

Accepted Answer

An examination of your oral-facial structure and a complete medical history will help your surgeon establish if a nonsurgical or surgical treatment is appropriate. Advanced imaging, such as an MRI or CT scan, may be ordered to aid in diagnosis. Warm compresses, anti-inflammatory medications, a soft-food diet, and a night guard or bite plate may be prescribed to prevent chronic pain and tooth damage caused by habits like clenching and grinding.
